Hey everyone,
This is Ruby, founder of Kizmah CBD. Tomorrow, I’ll be closing my shop and heading to City Hall — not because I want to, but because I refuse to sit quietly while the City drags us back into a 1920s-style prohibition… on hemp. (Seriously — what’s next, speakeasies for CBD gummies?)
For almost three years, Kizmah has been here for our community—offering safe, lab-tested, 21+ products for anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia, PTSD, epilepsy, MS, cancer patients, and clean products for our fur babies! We’ve built this business with integrity, transparency, and care.
This fight isn’t just about my business. Every small, minority, and women-owned hemp business in Chicago is being squeezed by confusing rules, excessive fees, and enforcement that hits small businesses harder than big corporations. Meanwhile, Big Cannabis and Big Alcohol are using money and influence to monopolize hemp drinks and products and dominate the market, pushing out the small, independent shops that actually listen to and serve our neighborhoods.
We’re the mom-and-pop shops, the wellness-focused entrepreneurs, the community builders. We host events, support families, and provide safe, legal products that thousands of Chicagoans rely on. Yet this proposed ban could shut us down in as little as 10 days, while corporate interests move in to corner the hemp market.
I’m closing my store tomorrow to fight for justice, fairness, and a future where small Chicago businesses aren’t bulldozed by lobbyists. This isn’t just about me—it’s about every owner who built their business with sweat, heart, and community support.
If you believe in fairness and economic justice, and you agree that Chicago shouldn’t enforce a modern-day hemp prohibition, please contact your alderman before tomorrow and help save Kizmah. And if you rely on our products, it’s a good idea to stock up on your favorites while you still can.
Let’s send a message loud enough that City Hall can’t ignore it:
We will not be strong-armed. We will not be pushed out. And we will not let modern-day prohibition take away our livelihoods.

Subject: Vote NO on the Hemp Ban — Support Small Businesses
Hi Alderman,
I’m a constituent and a customer of Kizmah CBD. I’m asking you to vote NO on the hemp ban tomorrow. This ban unfairly targets safe, responsible, passionate small businesses and removes access to wellness products that many Chicagoans rely on. Please support regulation—not prohibition—and stand up for equity and small businesses in our city.
Thank you.
